At The Approach of Rajab & Sha’ban

With the sighting of the crescent of Rajab, Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam would anticipate and begin preparations for the month of Ramadhan. This is two months in advance.

Sayyiduna Anas Ibn Malik (radiyallahu’anhu) reports that Rasulullah Sllallahu Alaihi Wasallam would recite the following supplication when the Month of Rajab would commence:
Allahumma baarik lanaa fee Rajaba wa Sha’bana wa balligh-naa Ramadhan
(Shu’abul-Iman #3534, Ibnu Sunni#660, Mukhtasar Zawaid Bazzar #662, also see Al-Azhkar #549)

Rajab is the second of the “four sacred months” in the Islamic Calendar which are referred to as: “Al-Ash-hurul hurum”
(Surah Tawbah, verse: 36)
The others are : Zhul-Qa’dah, Zhul-Hijjah and Al-Muharram.

Explaining their significance the ‘Ulama mention that during these months, good deeds are more virtuous and evil deeds are more detestable to Almighty Allah. (Lataiful-Ma’arif, pg.163)

As for Sha’ban, authentic Ahadith describe special significance for the 15th night.
Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is reported to have said: “Certainly Almighty Allah forgives everyone on this night besides those who ascribe partners to Him and those who harbor enmity for others”.
(Sahih Ibn Hibban #5665, Al-Targheeb,vol.3 pg.459, Majma’uz-zawaid,vol.8 pg.65 & Lataaiful-Ma’arif, pg.194)

Imam ‘Ataa Ibn Yasar (rahimahullah)- a distinguished Tabi’e- said: “After Laylatul Qadr, there is no other night more virtuous than the middle (15th) night of Sha’ban.”
(Ibid, pg. 197)

Imam Shafi’e Rh.A. has stated: “I have heard that du’as are accepted by Almighty Allah on five nights:
1) The night of Jumu’ah
2 & 3) The nights of the two ‘Eids
4) The first night of Rajab
5) The middle (15th) night of Sha’ban
(Lataiful Ma’arif, pg. 196)

Some Hadiths about Jummah (The Best Day)

Rasulullah ( Allah bless him & give him peace) said:
“Friday is the “mother” of all days and the most virtuous in the sight of Allah Ta’ala. In the sight of Allah Ta’ala it has more greatness than Eid ul-Fitr and Eid ul-Ad’haa . ”
(Imam Ibn Majah )

Rasulullah (Allah bless him & give him peace) said:
“There is such an hour on Friday that if any Muslim makes dua in it, his dua will definitely be accepted. ”
[Bukhari, Muslim]

On one Friday, Rasulullah (Allah bless him & give him peace) said: “O Muslims! Allah Ta’ala has made this day a day of eid . So have a bath on this day, whoever has perfume should apply it, and use the miswaak. ”
(Ibn Majah)

Rasulullah (Allah bless him & give him peace) said:
“Friday is the best of days. It was on this day that Hadhrat Aadam alayhis salaam was created, it was on this day that he was granted entry into jannah, it was on this day that he was removed from jannah (which became the cause for man’s existence in this universe, and which is a great blessing), and the day of resurrection will also take place on this day.”
(Sahih Muslim)

Rasulullah (Allah bless him & give him peace) said: “Of all the days, Friday is the most virtuous. It is on this day that the trumpet will be blown. Send abundant durood upon me on Fridays because they are presented to me on that day. ” The Sahabah radiallahu anhum asked: “O Rasulullah! How will they be presented to you when even your bones will not be present after your death ?” Rasulullah (Allah bless him & give him peace) replied: “Allah Ta’ala has made the earth haraam upon the prophets forever.”
(Abu Dawud)
